How do I care for my Kawai acoustic piano?

Dust gently with a soft cloth, avoid alcohol and harsh chemicals, tune 2–4 times per year, and have a technician service the action periodically.

Cleaning: Dust should be removed using a soft feather or wool-type duster. Avoid applying pressure to the finish or dragging dust across it, as this can create fine scratches. Fingerprints and similar marks can be cleaned with a dampened soft cloth followed by a dry cloth. For stubborn greasy dirt, a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid may help. In general, furniture polishes are not recommended except for specialized polishes for high-gloss finishes.

Avoid using alcohol, benzine, thinner, or chlorine bleach on any part of the piano — these can cause discoloration or deterioration of painted parts and metal hardware.

Tuning and Service: Kawai recommends 2–4 tunings per year, depending on the stability of temperature and humidity and the amount of use. Pianos also benefit from periodic regulation and voicing to keep the action and tone even. If the touch or tone seems uneven or notes do not repeat well, speak with a qualified piano technician.

For interior cleaning of the plate, strings, soundboard, and action, always use a qualified piano technician — improper cleaning can cause damage.
