Where is the serial number on my Kawai piano, and how do I determine the year it was made?
Serial number location varies by instrument type. Grand: under the music desk on the iron plate. Upright: top of the iron plate. Digital: under the keybed on the right side.
For Kawai grand pianos, the serial number is found on the iron plate under the music desk on the right side (near the tuning pins). You may need to slide out the music desk to see it.
For Kawai upright pianos, the serial number is located either (1) at the top right side of the iron plate (near the tuning pins) or (2) at the top center of the plate between the bass and treble sections. Lift the piano lid to find it.
For Kawai acoustic hybrid pianos (K200-ATX3 and K300 AURES), the serial number is at the top center of the iron plate under the Kawai logo.
For console digital pianos (KDP/CN/CA/CS/CP/NV) and portable digital pianos (ES Series), the serial number is under the keybed on the right side. For MP Series stage pianos, the serial number is on the back of the instrument.
Japan production serial numbers begin with 4200 in 1927 and reach 2,774,800 in 2023. U.S. production (1988–2004) begins with A6904. Indonesia production (2003–2020) begins with F000200. Serial numbers for different models are not always sequential — actual dates may vary slightly.
