How do I create a multi patch and sequence using my Kawai K-4 synthesizer?

Configure system MIDI settings, create a Multi patch with each section on a unique MIDI channel, then connect to your sequencer. Step-by-step instructions are provided.

Before sequencing with the K-4, create a Multi patch configured for multi-timbral operation.

Preliminary SYSTEM settings: (1) Push WRITE 5 times. (2) Push -NO to set INT PROTECT = OFF. (3) Push SYSTEM. (4) Set SYSTEM/MIDI = RCV. (5) Push SYSTEM, set RCV CH = 1. (6) Push SYSTEM, set OMNI = OFF. (7) Push SYSTEM, set RCV PRG = SECT using +YES. (8) Push MULTI to exit.

Creating the Multi Patch: (1) Choose a Multi patch to overwrite. (2) Push EDIT. (3) Push C for Window 3: set RCV CH = section number, and for K-4 keyboards set MODE = MIDI for each section. (4) Push B for Window 2: set ZONE LO = C-2, ZONE HI = G8, VEL SW = ALL for each section. (5) Push D for Window 4: set LEVEL = 100, TRANS = 0, TUNE = 0, SUBMIX = A for each section. (6) Push WRITE twice, then +YES twice to save.

Program Change Chart: Banks A–D correspond to program numbers 1–64 (A=1–16, B=17–32, C=33–48, D=49–64).
