How do I create a multi patch and sequence using my Kawai K-1 synthesizer?

Configure system MIDI settings, set each section to a unique MIDI channel in a Multi patch, then connect to your sequencer. Step-by-step instructions are provided.

Before sequencing with the K-1, you must create a Multi patch for multi-timbral operation. Each of the 8 sections must be set to a separate MIDI channel.

Preliminary SYSTEM settings: (1) Push SYSTEM. (2) Push -NO until display shows SYSTEM/MIDI = SYS. (3) Push SYSTEM 3 more times. (4) Push -NO to set INT PROTECT = OFF. (5) Continue pushing SYSTEM until SYSTEM/MIDI = SYS appears again. (6) Change SYS to RCV using +YES twice. (7) Push SYSTEM, then set RCV CH = 1. (8) Push SYSTEM, then set OMNI = OFF. (9) Push SYSTEM, then set RCV PRG = SECT using +YES. (10) Push MULTI to exit.

Creating the Multi Patch: (1) Pick a Multi patch to overwrite. (2) Push EDIT. (3) Push C for Window 3 and use buttons 1–8 to select sections. Set POLY = VR, MODE = MIDI, and RCV CH = section number for each section. (4) Push B for Window 2, set ZONE LO = C-2 and ZONE HI = G8, and VEL SW = ALL for each section. (5) Push D for Window 4 and set TRANS = 0, TUNE = 0, LEVEL = 100, OUTPUT = L+R for each section. (6) Push WRITE to save.
