Can I tell how old my Kawai acoustic piano is from its serial number?
Yes — all Kawai pianos have a serial number that corresponds to the approximate production year.
All Kawai pianos are marked with a serial number made up of numbers and sometimes letters. The serial numbers listed on the Kawai website correspond to the approximate first number produced for each year, going back to 1927 for Japan production, 1988 for US production, and 2003 for Indonesia production.
Starting letters other than A (US production) or F (Indonesia production) should be disregarded when interpreting serial numbers. Note that serial numbers for different models are not always sequential, so actual production dates may vary slightly.
You can find the full serial number chart on the Kawai support website or by contacting your local Kawai authorised dealer.
